Interview with The Organizing Experts CEO

Kammie explains, “Disorganization blocks our creativity and steals our ambition. Women need a trusted source to call when life gets crazy. Someone that withholds judgement, to simply come over and help tame the chaos of day to day life. To create a foundation, a starting point to step forward and have the ability to conquer whatever life throws their way. The Organizing Experts know how to move from room to room in the most efficient way possible. It’s what makes us great.”

Almost a decade ago, Kammie came into the organizing business without even really knowing what a professional organizer was. “I was feeling stuck in my previous work-life and was craving a more creative profession. I wanted to help people in a life changing way, I just wasn’t sure how to do that.”

One afternoon she discovered Peter Wash while watching The Oprah Winfrey Show and was captivated by his ability to transform a cluttered environment in a single episode. The hugs, the tears and the complete joy that the homeowner’s had with Wash’s work tugged at Kammie’s heartstrings.

“My specialty had always been organizing small businesses in my previous endeavors.” recalls Kammie. “I learned to wear every hat in every department. It never dawned on me that people needed or wanted to have their HOMES organized.”

Her calling to de-clutter became evident as Seattle residents raved about The Organizing Experts on Her talent for getting clients to live a more organized life was yielding amazing results for many and profoundly affecting Kammie on a personal level. She had a powerful experience while organizing that empowered her to fiercely pursue her life’s work.

The call that changed everything…

Lisa Worthington Brown, at 34 years old, was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer shortly after losing her husband to cystic fibrosis months prior. Feeling lost and alone, Lisa reached out to The Organizing Experts to organize her life so that she could focus her efforts on surviving cancer.
“I knew I couldn’t leave her side. I couldn’t let this sweet girl fight this battle alone.” said Kammie. It was on this basis that Kammie and Lisa forged a short, but live-changing relationship. Kammie put her clientele on hold to be with her for the next several months while Lisa underwent treatment. “Going through treatment with Lisa, seeing her day-to-day challenges, really woke me up to the work I’m doing. It wasn’t just about organizing and making things pretty with labels. It was about living the best possible life you can, while you can.” She believes, that having an organized environment, a place that is comforting and homey while you are battling life’s obstacles is what this work is really all about.

Kammie never expected to be where she is now, but she says, “Life has a way of testing you and providing experiences that prepare you for the person you’ll become. Being part of the Organizing Experts has pushed me to grow far beyond my comfort zone and think outside the traditional box of the organizing industry. It has given me the platform to employ those who also have a love for all things organized.”

The Organizing Experts strive to provide a one day organizing experience that gives clients more time and money to enjoy their life, rather than be tied down by it.

Q&A with Kammie Lisenby of The Organizing Experts

What is your mantra?

“The answer is always “no” unless you try.”
“When in doubt, throw it out.”
“Simply showing up is half the battle, the other half just requires the doing.”
“If it doesn’t make you feel fabulous; don’t do it, don’t buy it, don’t keep it.”
“Do no harm, but take no shit.”

What is your favorite thing to organize and why?

It’s what comes natural to me. I love to organize businesses and systems. I love to organize the entrepreneur.
A close second to business organization is closets. I could spend all day in a closet and often do.
As they say, “I love my money where I can see it; hanging in my closet.” It’s very rewarding for me to walk away from a day’s work and know, that you just gave your client confidence to locate the perfect pair of shoes so she can step into tomorrow with confidence rather than chaos.

What do you see in the future for The Organizing Experts?

My intentions for the company is to only expand when the time is right. I’m not focused on growing so big that it’s no longer fun to operate. I’m perfectly content with having a tight knit group of awesome people who provide a service that is unlike anything, anyone has ever experienced. Having a large company doesn’t necessary mean you’re the best at what you do. My focus is to be the best and give an experience that people can’t wait to talk about with their friends and family.
